The Descartes Prizes are among the activities supported under the European Commission’s Sixth Framework Programme, within the Research Directorate Science and Society.
Prize 1: Descartes Prize for Research (EUROS 1,15 Million)
The Descartes Prize for Research has been awarded yearly, since 2000, to transnational research teams, which have achieved outstanding scientific or technological results through collaborative research in any field of science, including economics, social sciences and humanities.

Prize 2: Descartes Prize for Science Communication (EUROS - 2,75 Million)
The Descartes Prize for Science Communication has been awarded yearly, since 2004. It targets Organizations or individuals having achieved outstanding results in making science familiar to public.
